"Your presentation was fabulous and the students and teachers really enjoyed it. Although most children's authors are able to relate to children in print, not many are able to relate and speak to them as effectively in person as you do."

Renna with L'Ecole Edward Johnson Public School Students

Dear Renna,

Thank you for providing the Kindergarten to Grade 3 students at Edward Johnson with a literacy event they will never forget. What fun they had dancing and dressing up in Jazlyn J style! You have a very natural, and enthusiastic way of relating to children. They were intrigued to hear all about how your books are created and that you use graphic organizers to plan your stories - just like they do in the classroom! I really liked your interactive approach and use of drama with the students to promote the importance of positive thinking and an "I can do it" attitude - both strong messages found in your Jazlyn J. books.

You were a huge hit Renna! We look forward to adding the rest of the series to our library. They will not be staying on the shelves! We wish you all the best in your future endeavours and look forward to you visiting with us again in the near future.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Forde

Renná at Lackner Woods Public School

Renná Bruce provides a dynamic, interactive presentation for young children. The children can easily identify with her inquisitive storybook character, Jazlyn J. Her stories encourage students to think about the extraordinariness of their own everyday adventures and the learning that each new day holds. Renná's cheerful enthusiastic presentation helps students discover that the secrets of a successful author may be found right within their own classroom lessons.

We were fortunate enough to have Renná Bruce visit our grade 3 classes and introduce 'Jazlyn' to us. We haven't been able to keep the books on the shelf.

Not only did Renná turn the children onto reading but she also turned them onto writing. The grade 3 writing club tried their hand at writing their own books and then had a wonderful opportunity to share some of their ideas and struggles. They had a whole new appreciation for the creation of 'Jazlyn'.

Hi Mrs.Bruce,

My name is Kelli-Anne King and I am currently finishing my Bachelor of Education degree at Memorial University in Corner Brook, Newfoundland.  In one of my classes, we were asked to pick a Canadian writer and complete a small assignment.

Once I searched the Canadian Children's Book Centre and found Jazlyn J, I knew I had to pick her.  She captivated me immediately.  First I browsed the website and then I went and got some books.  The stories are fascinating and the illustrations are fantastic.  If only I could draw like that!

I really liked that you have incorporated so much of children's experiences into your books.  I have observed that children like the book more if they can relate to it.  I think that more of these books are needed in classrooms and libraries.

As a learning teacher, I really liked the teacher section on your website.  It helped me create new ideas that I know I will use in my class.

I just wanted to say that I think your stories and illustrations are exceptional and a great source of motivation for young children.  I can't wait to read them all.

A New Fan

Dear Renná,

Thank you for your visit to Lackner Woods Public School on Tuesday, April 15th. The grade 3 and 4 students were very fortunate to be able to chat with you about your experiences in becoming an author. They enjoyed listening to your book about Jazlyn J's Day of Danger, but they equally enjoyed hearing about the process that you use in developing your stories. It was particularly key that the graphic organizers that you shared as being the plans for your stories are almost precisely the same sorts of organizers being used by the students. What a great way to demonstrate a connection between what they do in the classroom to what happens in "real life" situations!

Renná, your energy and enthusiasm for your work was inspirational for the children. You are developing a book series that appeals to their interests and that shares valuable life lessons. I'm certain that you were "the favourite part of the day" for many of the children at home that evening.

Thank you for sharing your talents with us. I look forward to future titles in the series and wish you all the best in your endeavours as an author and children's advocate.

Sincerely,
Peggy Dieterle

Hey Renna

Well, surprise, surprise - you were the talk of the hallways all day. You were such a hit - the kids LOVED it. Thank you so much for taking time out of your already busy schedule to do this not only for me, but for my students.

Moreover, the other teachers were incredibly pleased with what they heard and saw - you are such a natural - and this is what you really need to be spending the rest of your life doing. Gabby (the Librarian) wants you back again she was so pleased.

Thanks again,
Erin :)

Hello Renná

Our family enjoyed the fun you provided on Sunday afternoon at Lake Alive. Your enthusiasm and playfulness were contagious to both children and adults.

Thanks

Hi Renna,

I just wanted to send you a note to thank you once again for an entertaining morning. I have had great feedback from all the teachers!!! Apparently they were a little dissappointed that the children didn't share some of their comments about the books with you that they had shared in the classroom. For example, one teacher after asking the children what they liked about the story had comments like “I liked that she made mistakes” and “I liked that we learned something”!!!! These were comments made in a grade one class without any prompting!!! The books work......keep it up!!!!!

Thanks so much!!!!

Hi Renná,

Thank you so much from all of the students and staff at Bayside Public School. We thoroughly enjoyed your visit, and the empowering message that your Jazlyn J books give. The kids absolutely loved your upbeat, fun, and exciting presentation, and I dare speak for all of our staff in saying that we did as well. I must admit that walking in Jazlyn's "slippers" for only a little while put a big smile on my face and in my heart:) Your visit holds a special place in our hearts, and your series has received the honour of it's very own "author box" in our library. We can't wait to add even more of your wonderful stories to it. You were most certainly the best part of our day, and one of the best parts of our year.

From all of your admiring fans at Bayside Public School thanks so much,

Mrs. A. Robinson
